【摘要】:ThisInternationalStandardspecifiesmanufacturingmethodsandmaterialsthatwillresultindurablehardcoverandsoftcoverbindingforbooksmanufacturedincommercialquantities.Itdoesnotapplytohandbookbinding,individualcasingorbindingofarchivalmatter.Nordoesitapplytofinebindingwhichdoesnotserveitsnormalpurposeofprimarilyprotectingabookblock(suchassculpturalartformedaroundbook-likematerial).ThisInternationalStandardhastwonormativeannexesandoneannexwithasetofguidelines,eachspecifyingtherequirementsforitsspecialcategoryofbinding.CategoryAbinding(annexA)isintended—forbooksofpermanentretention;—forbooksproducedwithaviewtoheavyuseoverprolongedperiods,e.g.referenceworks;—forvaluablevolumesrequiringlastingprotection;—foritemshavinglastingaestheticvalue.CategoryBbinding(annexB)isintended—forbooksandperiodicalsinsoftcoverandofpermanentretention;—forbooksandperiodicalsproducedwithaviewtoheavyuseoverprolongedperiods;—forvaluablevolumesrequiringlastingprotection;—foritemshavingaestheticvalue.Guidelinesthatspecifyrecommendedmanufacturingmethodsandmaterialsforsoftcoverandhardcoveradhesive-boundbooksaregiveninannexC.AnnexDcontainsinformationregardingthefieldsofapplicationsuggestedforcategoryAandBbindingsandforadhesive-boundbooks.
